Herbert Leroy Shepherd

Herbert Leroy Shepherd, 83 born March 21, 1939, gained his wings on December 10, 2022, at UT Medical Center.

Herbert began working at the age of 16 at Kelly Shepherd & Sons. He later became an Athens City Police Officer and eventually went to work at the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department where he was Chief Deputy under Sheriff D.T. Nation. He later returned to Kelly Shepherd & Sons where he worked until his retirement. He was a Shriner and attended Good Hope Baptist, Decatur, TN.

He enjoyed deer hunting, watching sports, especially Nascar, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kelly Shepherd and Gladys Walker; sisters Pat Arnett and Susie Malone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Frankie Shepherd. Sons, Patrick (Clarissa) Shepherd and Tony (Carla) Burns; Brothers James (Jane) Shepherd and Kelly-Kid (Connie) Shepherd; Grandchildren Sierra (Tristan) Fischer, Jace Shepherd, Matt Burns and Skylar (Dustin) Cranfield; Four great grandchildren and a precious baby girl to be born March 2023. His grandkids and grand-dog Sadie were the light of his life.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6-8 on Wednesday, December 14th. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 15th at McMinn Memory Gardens, Athens, TN with Reverend Bill Pearman officiating.
