George Stanley Cansler, 71, of Niota, passed away Monday, September 27th at Sweetwater Hospital.

He was a native of Hagerstown, Indiana and moved to Athens at age 8.

Stanley worked as an asphalt plant operator for 45 years. He retired from Harrison-Apac Construction in Knoxville, TN. Stanley enjoyed being a part time farmer and was follower of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Cansler; brother-in-law, Lynn Monroe; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, E S Garren jr. and wife Faye.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 50 years, Annette Monroe Cansler; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Jennifer Cansler; grandchildren, Jenna, Julia, and Joseph Cansler of Alabama; mother, Ruby Cansler; sister, Sue Cansler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Ruth Monroe; and sister-in-law, Carol Akin.

The funeral service will be held at Good Samaritan Funeral Home Wednesday, September 29th at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 prior to the service.

A burial will follow at Clearwater Cemetery with Rev. Greg Hutsell officiating.
