Mary Kirkland

Mary Helen Kirkland, a beloved resident of Niota, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 11, 2023. She has now joined her husband, Robert Kirkland, in eternal rest.

Mary Helen was born on August 5, 1940 to Walter Lee Carroll and Helen Jewell Wallis. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Throughout her life, Mary Helen was known for her kind heart and gentle spirit. She was always there to lend a helping hand and offer words of comfort to those in need. Mary Helen's warm smile and infectious laughter brightened the lives of everyone she met. In her free time, Mary Helen enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. Mary Helen's love for family and her nurturing spirit were evident in the family that surrounded her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love, compassion, and strength will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She is preceded in death by several family members cherished and missed so much. Husband Robert Kirkland; daughter Carolyn; grandson Jonathan Stringfield; great grandson Joseph Marty Stringfield; parents Walter Lee Caroll and Helen Jewell Wallis; sisters Della Faye Bettis and Matti Lee McPhail.

Those left to cherish her memory are son Bobby Brakebill; daughters Mary Yvette Yates, Victoria Tudor; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.

A funeral service to celebrate Mary Helen's life will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Good Samaritan in Athens, TN. Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 prior to the service. Grave side service to follow at Pond Hill Cemetery.
