John Barrett, age 71 of Athens, passed away on Sunday, November 30th, 2025. He grew up in Dayton, OH and later moved to Athens, TN. He was an incredible father who loved his family dearly and spent most of his time with them. His joy for life was known by everyone who met him.
John never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family, classic rock, cars and laughter. He was always up for an adventure and was ready for anything life threw at him. John spent two years running track and three years cross country during high school. He celebrated 11, almost 12 years of sobriety and had an amazing group of AA friends and family. His family was incredibly proud of this accomplishment.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Halletha Barrett; brother, Terrence Barrett; sister-in-law Phoebe Barrett; sister Dawn Currence; brother Mike Fernandez; and nephews; Rusty Feeman, Sam Feeman and Bill Holcomb.
John is survived by his wife, Ellen Barrett; and children, Tristan Barrett, Brianne Castillo, (Hugo Castillo Briones) Takoda Barrett,(Kodi) and Gwen Monzon; nieces and nephews, Bobby Feeman (Michelle), Alex Feeman (Savannah) and Emily Brun (Paige), Dustin Feeman, (Shaylee) Kyle Feeman, Cara Smith, (Ashley) Macie Feeman. John was delighted to have his first grandchild on the way.
