Jo Ann Jones Lamb, 92, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away in a local assisted living facility while listening to a Chopin piano concerto. She was born May 3, 1930, to Robert and Rose Jones in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jo Ann attended Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music and met her future husband, Robert Lamb. They were married on December 29, 1952.
She brought music to life for so many students during her 65-plus years of teaching piano. Many of her students earned high-level degrees in music and performance while others became music teachers themselves.
Jo Ann was a tenacious tennis player, an avid gardener, a friend to animals, and a voracious reader. Playing bridge was a favorite pastime that kept her mind sharp and her sense of competition strong.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Lamb, and her son, Russell Lamb.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennie DeCook (Randy); four grandchildren, Robert J. Lamb, Tiffany Wilcox, Casey David (Beau), and Thomas DeCook; five great-grandsons; a beloved sister, Carol Grady; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Brookdale Cleveland Assisted Living, Home Helpers of Cleveland, and the Cleveland office of Hospice of Chattanooga for their care and support.
No formal services have been arranged at this time.
In Jo Ann’s memory, memorial contributions can be made to the Ark of Cleveland, Inc., a local no-kill animal shelter, 240 Oak St. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311, which would be greatly appreciated.
