Donald Melton, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 14, 2026. Donald was born on July 24, 1947, in Athens, Tennessee, where his deep roots and strong sense of community were established early on and continued throughout his life.
Donald dedicated twelve years of his life to military service with the United States Army, including honorable service during the Vietnam conflict. His commitment to his country and sense of duty were defining characteristics that shaped not only his career but his approach to life and family.
Beyond his military career, Donald was a man of many talents and interests. His natural mechanical aptitude was evident in his work as a ham radio operator and his unique skill in building cuckoo clocks. These hobbies reflected his meticulous nature and love for problem-solving. Donald enjoyed radio-controlled planes, finding joy both in their intricate assembly and their graceful flight. He loved to fish, finding tranquility being outside.
Donald’s life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46, Grace Elizabeth Melton; daughters, Veronica (Andrew) Fuentes, San Antonio, TX, Jennifer Melton, San Antonio, TX; granddaughter, Nicole Fuentes, San Antonio, TX; aunt, Jackie Hammonds, Athens, TN, aunt & uncle, Judy & Jim Bridges, Knoxville, TN, aunt, Libby Arrowood, Cartersville, GA.
Family will receive friends Monday, July 20th, 2026, at First Baptist Church, Athens from 11 am until 1 pm, with the funeral service at 1 pm, then proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 2 pm committal service.
